PARTNERSHIP
The Challenge
The BSSM has worked with Rade for nearly 20 years, multiple successful website versions have been developed and updated to keep pace with evolving technology and software.
The site’s primary purpose is to provide members with a dependable source of information, alongside promoting an annual conference and trusted training schemes and workshops. Membership includes both individuals and organisations.
The BSSM also supports the next generation of analysts by encouraging student development and offering reduced fees to those studying in relevant fields, helping make professional growth more accessible and sustaining the future of the industry.
Our Solution
The site was designed to be simple, elegant, and easy to navigate, appealing to a broad audience. Its core focus is promoting the BSSM International Conference in Experimental Mechanics, alongside a members area and a range of workshops, seminars, and training courses.
Visitors can book conference tickets and selected workshops online, with discounted rates for members and students, and choose to pay by card or request an invoice using Ecwid. The members area includes multiple permission levels, allowing restricted access to specific content.
An extensive archive is also available, serving as a valuable and frequently used resource.
The Result
This latest update brings the BSSM site up to date with the latest Umbraco version, restoring security, performance, and long term viability.
The platform now benefits from active security patches, reducing exposure to vulnerabilities and attacks. Performance improvements deliver faster load times and stronger scalability, enhancing user experience and SEO. A modernised backoffice streamlines content management, making updates quicker and more efficient for internal teams.
The upgrade also enables compatibility with modern technologies, integrations, and devices. With ongoing support reinstated, the site is easier to maintain and extend, reducing technical debt and positioning the business for future growth and resilience.

BSSM
The British Society for Strain Measurement (BSSM) is a non-profit making scientific, membership which sits between industry, academia and the engineering community
Project Scope
The BSSM has been a client of Rade for the best part of 2 decades. In that time we have created multiple succesful versions of the website changing periodically to keep abreast of software and technology updates.
It's main focus is to provide members with a reliable source of information alongside an annual conference and credible training schemes and workshops.
Members are sometimes individuals, sometimes companies. They also actively encourage younger analysts by supporting student growth and offer reduced fees to those studying in relevant areas.
Solution
The site needed to be simple yet elegant, stylish and very easy to navigate around appealing to a broad demographic of visitors.
The main focus of the site revolves around the marketing of the BSSM International Conference in Experimental Mechanics, a Members Area, plus a varierty of workshops, seminars and training/certification courses.
Visitors can reserve conference tickets and certain workshops online with discounted prices for members, students etc. They then have the option to either pay through the site with a card, or request an invoice at the checkout. To execute this, we used some Ecwid shop functionality (a third party shopping system).
The members area has a number of different 'permission levels' for each member. This allows BSSM to use this facility to disseminate information locked down to various committees without it all being available to the general membership.
There is also an extensive archive which is a valuable resource and regularly used.
