Mobile Apps

AHDB HorticultureA natural progression from websites is ‘the App’. With an ever-increasing number of people using smart-phones and tablets for both business and recreational purposes, the demand for accessing information from mobile devices of all shapes and sizes grows almost daily.

Apps can be developed for both online and off-line use. Online Apps require an Internet connection to allow live data feeds of information (such as market prices or the latest weather) which constantly need to be updated. Depending on the size and type of data, this often needs a 3G or 4G mobile connection to deliver the best user experience.

By extending the App to include ‘off-line’ content, an Internet connection is only required to initially download information to the device and it can function and display content (such as imagery and videos) when no connection is available making it ideal for field use or training purposes. An excellent example of this is an Android and iPad App we developed for AHDB Pork.

App content updates can be controlled through a content management system which provides all the flexibility you need. As an example, we can build a web site, a ‘responsive’ mobile-friendly version of that site and an App where you can update content in just one place through one admin system saving time whilst displaying your content in different mediums faster.
