Client: AHDB Beef & Lamb
Project: Android & iOS Mobile & Tablet App
Giving beef and lamb producers access to the latest market prices on the go, via mobile app and a new market data management system.
Create a new data management system for delivering market data. Figures, delivered daily from auction marts across the country, need to be processed into reports. These reports need to be published to the AHDB website via a data feed, as well as in a format that updates a mobile app.
Create an app to better communicate information to farmers and processor. The app will be an extension to the AHDB website, giving people access to resources anytime, anywhere.
Foremost in AHDB’s plans was making extensive information easily available to users on the go. The app works as a streamlined version of beefandlamb.ahdb.org.uk, giving users fast track access to key areas of the website including markets data, events, news, Better Returns Programme (BRP) resources and local weather reports.
Using Rade Digital’s Enterprise Site Manager (ESM) software to build the web and data system, new content is driven to the Beef and Lamb Lite app allowing the AHDB team to make changes without needing to republish the entire app.
Auction Market data, collated by Market Intelligence team, is engineered to provide up to the minute information from numerous auction markets. This is then processed into reports, comparison charts and graphs. Users can search for results from their nearest auction markets, save selected markets for next time and compare prices, daily and weekly averages and trends.
A personalised library of favourite technical manuals from the BRP can be quickly downloaded to your smartphone or tablet and accessed anytime.
The app allows you to retrieve information even when you have no wi-fi or mobile signal. Allowing data to be accessed offline helps to ensure those in more remote rural locations can find the information they need quickly and easily. The app is compatible with iOS and Android on a cross-section of smartphones and tablets.
“Communicating key information to beef and sheep farmers is one of the cornerstones of AHDB’s work” says Dr Phil Hadley, Senior Regional Manager – Southern Region “Finding effective ways to communicate with such a diverse group… represents an ongoing challenge. It’s in response to that challenge that the new Beef and Lamb Lite Mobile app has been launched.”
